Certain Issues Related to the Use of Mobile Phones in Public Places
Mobile phones are a necessity in the modern world. This fact cannot be overemphasized. However, the popularity of mobile phones is being undermined to a certain extent due to certain issues related to the use of mobile phones in public.

As we venture out of our houses, we find people talking loudly on their handsets in places, where silence is a must. Many a times, we get disturbed due to the ringing of real tones or polyphonic ringtones from the handset of a person sitting nearby, while we are, for instance, watching a movie in a cinema hall. At that moment, the novelty of the real ringtone or true ringtone is lost upon us; all we want is for the ringing to stop so that we can get to hear the dialogues in the movie.

We have also experienced instances wherein we go for a social visit and our host is too busy catching up the text messages on his mobile. Or maybe he is so much involved in the mobile Java games in his handsets that he or she is not able to talk uninterruptedly with us.

Another aspect to this problem manifests itself when we find the rise in road accidents due to people driving while they are talking on their mobile phones.

The upshot of this discussion is that mobile phone users often loose their perspective of a situation and become somewhat selfish to cater to their individual needs. In this context, a set of rules leading to better use of mobile phones in society becomes a necessity.

There are certain social norms that need to be followed, when we are talking over our mobiles in public places. People should avoid large and jazzy ringtones in cinema halls, hospitals and other areas where silence is desired. They should make sure that they are not intruding into the personal space of their neighbors, while they are talking over their phones. Some of these rules, if followed would automatically lead to better use of mobiles. This in turn would result in a greater acceptance of mobile phones in public places.
